  1. Love It Review by Brian Long

Last year I got one of the COMPEX stim units and the thing is AWESOME. I have used it exclusively for the active recovery. I was reminded just how awesome and versatile this tool is! (Posted on 4/21/10)

  2. Rehabilitation Review by ELS

While going through rather intensive Physical Therapy while recovering from a severe Snowboarding Accident w/ 45 days in a comatose state, I met Mr. Ken Matsuda, who was the ex-Track and Field Coach for the University of Southern California. Who had much experience using the 'Compex' on some of his 'star' athletes.

After spending 45 days in a motionless, comatose state my muscle tone and strength had diminished at an alarming rate. The Compex Sport is a perfect apparatus to supplement your current gym regimen to get the results we all want.

I am happy to report that I couldn't be happier with the results I have achieved with the Compex Sport.
If you actively study the written material that is provided to you w/ the Compex Sport you will be able to actively 'target' any muscle group or problem area. (Posted on 3/29/10)

  3. Love the Active Recovery Feature Review by Rebecca

I have minor back pain from scoliosis and the Compex device helps relieve the sore muscles when they become inflamed. I sit in a chair in front of a computer all day long which is horrible for your back. The Active Recovery Feature has been helping get more oxygen to my muscles and makes me feel better. I am starting to see a positive change in the way I feel too from the endorphins I get from using the unit, and want to be more active from just using the unit. It makes me feel younger. (Posted on 9/2/09)

  4. Love this Tool... Review by Dee

Works great to relax tired muscles after work-outs. Also very effective to build new muscles. I used it regularly. (Posted on 8/26/09)

  5. Amateur runner completed 1/2 Marathon with Compex Review by Leana Rice

After not having run a mile before, I signed up to run the San Diego 1/2 Rock n' Roll Marathon through Team in Training. In an effort to avoid soreness I obtained a Compex unit and used the Active Recovery program each night after my runs to reduce soreness the next day. Sure enough with the proper training and use of Compex I finished my race in 3 hours. I was thrilled! Thank you Compex! (Posted on 8/25/09)

  6. Great for reducing soreness after a workout! Review by Jerry W.

I use my Compex Sport after running or a work-out to reduce the muscle soreness and fatigue. I just apply the electrodes and run the Active Recovery program. Since I recently turned 45, it is nice to be able to push it during the work-out and not have to worry about major soreness the next day. Thanks for providing this great unit for old-timers who still want to stay in shape! (Posted on 8/24/09)

  7. Great before and after stretching Review by UseItDaily

I had a tight hip on Saturday and Sunday. So I over stretched and was sore on Monday. On Monday night, I used the "Active Recovery" mode for 3 sessions on my left side. The pain was gone by the time I was done.

I have lent my Compex Sport to a doctor and massage therapist. They both like it and continue to ask to use it. (Posted on 8/21/09)

  8. Guess what I got for my Birthday.... Review by Robert K.

    To Whom It May Concern:

I am taking this moment to say how satisfied I am with my Compex Sport unit. I recently purchased one as a way to supplement my athletic activities – basketball, tennis, and swimming. I was initially skeptical that this unit could deliver as advertised. However, two weeks in, I can already feel that my results have been augmented by introducing the Compex Sport unit to my training regimen. I look forward to continuing to incorporate Compex as I strive to push the limits of my own potential.

Thank you very much. (Posted on 8/21/09)

  9. Volleyball Training Review by S. Stratos

For the past year each of our athletes has been using the Compex Muscle Stimulator. Our athletes have used it in two ways. First, the Compex unit has been used as part of their warm-down process following practice or a competition. It has been highly effective in greatly reducing the lactic acid from our athletes' legs, thus limiting the soreness that usually follows a difficult workout. Second, our athletes have also used the device to supplement their weight-training program. The Compex unit has helped our athletes strengthen their shoulders and legs above and beyond what occurs in the weight room.

The Compex Muscle Stimulator has become a very important component to the LMU Women's Volleyball training program.

  10. Thank you Review by Peter Vanderkaay

The Compex Sport has become an essential part of my training. It helps me build strength as well as recover after hard workouts. I firmly believe that Compex Sport can help take me to the next level. (Posted on 8/21/09)

  11. Oh...what a feeling! Review by Ray

Okay I'm pretty amazed. I just ran 13 yesterday which I hadn't done in a looooong time. I used the Compex Sport to warmup before I went out and my legs felt great from the outset. I felt like I was running on air. Usually my legs take 2 miles to wake up. When I got back I did 20 minutes or so of Active Recovery. I knew something was different when I walked down a set of stairs last night. I was expecting to be sore from my run. Nope...felt great. Then I was expecting to be really sore today...again no. My legs feel great. Pretty amazing. I guess the Compex really does clear out the lactic acid as promised. Love it....do I dare sign up for next year's Rock N Roll with my new secret weapon????? (Posted on 8/21/09)

  12. Fantastic Product! Review by whatchawant

The Compex Sport has allowed me to get in workouts when I don't have time. More importantly it has allowed me to get quick recovery from muscle sourness so that I workout hard the next day.
I'd recommend this to anyone who works out or is trying to loose weight. This is a tremendous benefit for anyone looking to improve their lifestyle. (Posted on 8/21/09)

  13. Fantastic Recovery Tool for All Athletes. Review by Andy K

I used Compex during the training for the Rock n' Roll Marathon in San Diego. After very demanding Marathon run I used twice the ACTIVE RECOVERY program.
Next day I came to work without any pain or discomfort in my legs. It felt like I did not run at all the previous day. What a great product! (Posted on 8/21/09)

  14. do it corectly Review by waterwes

i am a swimmer and tried the Compex Sport out for the Active Recovery at a big swim meet. I loved it, and decided to buy one for my own. once my coach got me a workout to do with the compex, i started with the strength training, but was not loyal with it and skipped a few workouts through the week. Bad idea i was soo sore on my arm that i couldnt not get out of the pool in the middel of practice without using the ladder. I stopped the workouts and resumed normal weight training and also with the Active Recovery program. A few months later I started up the workouts again but did it every day for two weeks then moved it down to every other day. i am still training with the Compex Sport, no terrible sorness, but a normal workout feeling. So for those who are thinking about getting one. DO IT! but dont start out too high on intensity, and keep it going.. normal dumbbell press for me is 35 in each hand..now i am at 55, with a few months training. (Posted on 8/5/09)

  15. Great for increasing strength Review by AJT81

I decided to try the Compex Sport muscle stimulator to see if I can build strength in my quads. I’ve suffered from knee problems most of my adult life and have been told by many doctors and trainers that strength in my quads is the key to keeping my knees healthy. My typically workout routine includes going to the gym 2 - 3 times a week and I target my quads with leg curls and squats. For the past month I’ve been using the Compex Sport on my quads 2 times a week in between my workouts. I’m using the resistance program on level 1 and keeping the intensity level as high as I can tolerate. Just in this past week I’ve noticed a difference when I was doing my leg curls. Typically I would do 2 sets of 20 reps with a weight of 20 lbs and on the last 5-7 reps of each set I would increase the weight to 30lbs. Last week I was able to complete both sets of 20 with 30lbs of weight. I’m not a big person, and I work very hard to obtain the strength I have so an increase like this is a big deal to me. Like I said, I’ve only been using my Compex sport for a month, but I completely see the value in supplementing your workout with this machine if you’re looking to maximize your strength. • how can these be covered by insurance?
    • You would need to have a doctor's prescription and inquire with your insurance company whether or not they will cover the cost of this Compex Muscle Stimulator. We do not bill insurance. You would purchase the product directly from here and then submit that invoice directly to your insurance company with you Doctor's prescription.

    • There are some cheaper electrostimulation machines advertised on tv. Why should I spend the money on a Compex unit?
    • Compex is the industry leader in FDA approved over-the-counter muscle stimulator and is the only OTC EMS device backed by 22 years of clinical research – all other devices that have FDA approval are predicated on the Compex clinical studies. Compex is manufactured and designed by DJO Incorporated – the leading global provider of high-quality, orthopedic devices, and is used by more academic institutions, professional athletes and sports teams than any other OTC EMS device on the market
  • From roger williams at 5/15/10 9:21 AM
    • does compex help in the muscles flexibility?
    • Compex muscle stimulators are designed to improve muscular strength, endurance and aid in recovery. We wouldn't say they are intended to make the muscles more flexible, although warm up and recovery programs activate the muscle fibers and "warm" them up and therefore you may feel looser and more flexible.

  • From Kevin at 5/27/10 11:12 AM
    • Is this the same as TENS Unit?
    • They are actually different. TENS the acronym for Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation. A TENS unit is prescribed for both acute pain and chronic pain conditions and sends electrical impulses to certain parts of the body to block pain signals from being transmitted to the brain. It is used at the sensory level and does not cause muscle contraction.
Compex (EMS) when used for strength training sends a signal to the motor nerve of the muscle causing it to contract and build muscle mass. The Active Recovery program uses specific low level frequencies to increase blood flow, remove lactic acid, release endorphins and promote muscle relaxation.
  • From Ruben at 6/25/10 10:03 AM
    • I have chronic upper back pain due to weak back muscles and working in front of a computer all day. My doctor recommended an EMS unit to help increase the strenght of my back muscles. Can I use this device or is it only recommended for athletes with muscles in good shape? Is the Level 1 low enough to increase the strenght in weak muscles or would it be too much if my muscles are too weak?
    • The Compex Muscle Stimulator is designed for anyone looking to improve muscular strength, endurance or speed recovery. The intensity is adjustable to suit weak or strong muscles. You want to choose an intensity that is your max tolerance this will recruit the most # of muscle fibers and provide you with the best strength gains.
  • From Gerry at 7/29/10 5:02 PM
    • My question is how much would it help me because im a 400m runner and i want to become faster and have more speed. Would this help me?
    • Yes, the Compex electronic muscle stimulators are designed for competitive athletes who want to improve their muscular strength, endurance and speed. If you currently on a strength training program or if you've never lifted before the Compex will improve your speed, strength & endurance for your 400m. Many professional swimmers, runners and cyclist have improved their speed/times since using the Compex. Testimonials can be found at www.shopcompex.com.
  • From Yarko prots at 7/31/10 9:01 PM
    • im a 18 year old basketball player who is interested in buying this compex version. Im just wondering if it really will make me explosive allowing me to jump higher and build my fast twitch muscle fibers. Also how long does it take to see results ??

      thank you
    • Yes, the purpose of the Compex Sport Elite & Compex Sport Explosive Strength program is to increase the speed with which maximum muscle strength can be supplied. It is designed to improve performance in sporting activities of very brief duration such as jumps, sprints and throwing. Like any other strength training program results can be see in 4-8 weeks.

  • From Yarko at 8/10/10 8:38 PM
    • i have the compex sport, i want to train my fast twitch muscle fibers but i watched a video on your site that inorder to train them you must put the herds up to 75- and beyond. My muscles can not take that much contraction as i struggle at 25. This is my second day useing the compex, do you think i will be able to reach that amount of herds soon ?
    • The hertz is a frequency programmed into the Strength and Explosive Strength programs on your Compex Sport model. When using these programs you will always be at 75 hertz or higher. The intensity or level you adjust to on the Compex is not the hertz the intensity or level 25 you are at is more like the weight you are lifting. Your level or intensity will gradually increase as your muscles get stronger by training with EMS (electronic muscle stimulation). Choose a level or intensity that is your max tolerance to recruit the most number of muscle fibers this will provide the best strength/endurance gains.

    • Do you deliver in canada?

is that working for pectoral muscle to?
    • Unfortunately, we no longer ship to Canada since items are being sent back by Canadian customs. If you know someone here in USA that can ship the items you can enter your billing address and USA shipping address.

The pectorals electrode contraindication is due to the proximity to the heart. You must also never apply the electrodes to the head and it is also recommended to avoid the area around the heart.
  • From Yarko at 8/17/10 8:17 PM
    • i have the compex sport, and i use to gain a higher vertical and become more explosive. I follow the basketball workout as featured on this site, but i don't do some body parts such as traps, triceps, biceps, lower back, i mainly focus on legs. Do you think i should do all of the requested body parts to get the best results ?

Also is active recovery necessary on each muscle you have targeted
    • It is recommended to target all major muscle groups when participating in a strength training program. This prevents muscular imbalances, improves strength and performance throughout the entire body.

The Active Recovery program is designed to increase body flow to an area to flush out lactic acid, to provide endorphin (pain relieving) effect and relax muscle. You want to use Active Recovery program on areas of the body where you want these type therapies.
  • From Yarko at 8/26/10 8:31 PM
    • i use to compex sport to gain a higher vertical and become more explosive. Should i still work out on my legs ( doing squats, calve raises) or should i just stick with the compex only ?
    • Professional athletes, weekend warriors and general athletes see the best results when combining Compex use with their current strength training program.
  • From jose at 10/7/10 8:25 PM
    • How often the electrodes have to be replaced?
    • Depending on your skin type, between 15 and 30 times. Some 30 applications are possible on skin that is clean, non-greasy and shaved.
  • From clark at 10/20/10 9:49 PM

which one do i need to increase my vertical leap
    • The Explosive Strength program is found on both the Compex Sport and Sport Elite models. The Explosive strength program has a Hz frequency of 104-120 and recruits large Type 2 fast twitch muscle fibers which is clinically proven to help improve explosive movements such as jumping and sprinting.

    • I'm no athlete, I am a businessman with a sedentary lifestyle, I'm just looking to lose fat and lose weight, especially in my abdominal region, this device would work for me?
    • This device is designed to contract your muscles. While you'll gain strength and tone your muscles with the use of this device you shouldn't expect it to burn fat or make you drop weight. Exercise and healthy diet are the key to reducing weight. Any device claiming to "slim your waistline" by just contracting your abdominal muscles isn't being completely forthright with you.
  • From Gerry G at 12/14/10 9:10 AM
    • How can compex help me gain speed? And How much speed would I earn if Im running a 4.62 40 yard ?
    • The Compex Sport Muscle Stimulator has a setting to specifically excite fast-twitch muscles fibers. This setting can involve more fibers than an individual can excite during specific exercises or movement alone. Unfortunately, each person will respond differently to the Compex Sport Muscle Stimulator due to physiological make-up differences. So, to determine what your actual gain would be is not forseeable. The more fast-twitch fibers vs slow-twitch fibers in your make-up will determine how much more speed you will gain with the use of this product.
  • From John at 12/23/10 8:15 PM
    • Can you use Explosive strength program and regular strength program in the same day?
Would I be able to use explosive strength program to work my muscles and then use active recovery right after?
    • Yes, but depending on your overall fitness, you may experience muscle fatigue and soreness the following day.

As for your second question. Absolutely! You can run the Active Recovery program several times a day as it increases circulation, clears lactic acid, releases endorphins and promotes overall muscle relaxation.
  • From deron at 12/23/10 9:22 PM
    • does this come with a battery?
does the charger recharge regular batteries
    • Yes, all Compex Muscle Stimulators come with a single rechargeable battery. The charging cord will not charge standard batteries which cannot be used in the unit anyways.
